The Bundestheater-Holding GmbH, which is 100 per cent state-owned, is the sole owner of three subsidiaries: Burgtheater GmbH, Wiener Staatsoper GmbH, Volksoper Wien GmbH and 51,1 per cent owner of the Theaterservice GmbH. The theatre companies – Burgtheater, Wiener Staatsoper, Volksoper Wien – owne each 16.7 per cent of the Theaterservice GmbH.
The theatre companies were established as economically directly responsible and artistically autonomous limited companies (GmbH).
The costume and set design shops, ticket sales, building administration as well as the data processing were united in a fourth company called the Theaterservice GmbH.
The Bundestheater-Holding as well as the Theaterservice GmbH have their own fully responsible managing directors. The management of the theatre companies consists of two managing directors, one for artistic and one for business matters. The companies’ managing directors are appointed for a duration of up to five years.
