The Bundestheater-Holding (Federal Theatres Holding), with an annual budget of 210 million Euro and a staff of about 2,500 people, is owned by the Republic of Austria and at the same time (is the) owner of four subsidiaries: Burgtheater GmbH, Wiener Staatsoper GmbH, Volksoper Wien GmbH and Theaterservice GmbH.
In its role as the “parent company”, the Bundestheater-Holding also offers a range of services to its subsidiaries, such as assistance in legal, budgetary and financial issues.
In co-ordination with its subsidiaries and therefore by way of agreement, the Bundestheater-Holding at the top of the companies serves as a contact between politics, the business community and the public.
Finally there is also the Audience Forum, a body within the Bundestheater-Holding, which acts on behalf of the theatre companies’ audience.
The main legal grounds are the “Bundestheaterorganisationsgesetz – BThOG” (Federal Theatres Organisation Act) as well as the Declaration of Establishment of June 21, 1999 (articles of association).
