The Burgtheater, being the Austrian national theatre is the most important playhouse in the Republic and Europe’s largest theatre for drama, combining tradition, variety and progress.
An audience of more than 410,000 people comes to see almost 800 performances per season at the Burgtheater, Akademietheater, Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz and Vestibül. With Karin Beier, Luc Bondy, Andrea Breth, Dieter Giesing, Klaus Michael Grüber, Martin Kusej, Thomas Langhoff, Peter Zadek... leading directors work for these houses, which have at their disposal an ensemble of more than 100 of the most famous actors.
Many productions of the Burgtheater receive awards every year and are regularly invited to famous theatre festivals like Berlin, Moscow and Edinburgh.
